Italy, a country located in Southern Europe, is renowned for its rich history, stunning architecture, delicious cuisine, and vibrant culture. Here are the reasons why you must go and visit Italy.
From the ancient ruins of Rome and the romantic canals of Venice to the artistic treasures of Florence and the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany, Italy offers a diverse array of experiences for travelers. The country is also famous for its culinary delights, including pasta, pizza, and gelato, which are enjoyed by people all over the world. Additionally, Italy is home to a wealth of cultural heritage, with numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a deep-rooted tradition in art, music, and fashion.
In 2013 we chose Italy as our honeymoon destination. After we got married in Denmark, off we headed to Italy. As soon as we reached the Italian alps, we were captivated by Italy’s charm and beauty right away.
My first taste of Italy started when I went solo traveling to Rome in 2011, and it was soon followed in 2012, visiting Rome once again and Florence for the first time, with some friends with me this time around. I’m a living testament to the customary belief that you ought to return to Rome after tossing a coin in the Trevi fountain. Surprisingly enough, for the third time, my mom and I visited Rome by 2022.
So, here are the places in Italy that I’ve been so far, most of which were the ones we visited during our honeymoon in 2013, while Rome is the one I had repeatedly visited and Trieste is the one we briefly visited while we had our family vacation in Slovenia last 2023.
Rome
Rome is the capital and most populous city of Italy, located in the central portion of the Italian Peninsula along the Tiber River. Known as “The Eternal City,” Rome boasts a history spanning 28 centuries, having served as the capital of the Roman Kingdom, Roman Republic, and Roman Empire, and today it remains a living museum where ancient ruins like the Colosseum and Roman Forum stand alongside Renaissance palaces, Baroque fountains, and modern neighborhoods. As the seat of Vatican City and home to countless UNESCO World Heritage sites, Rome is one of the most visited cities in Europe, attracting millions of tourists annually who come to experience its unparalleled blend of history, art, architecture, and world-renowned Italian cuisine.
Genoa
Genoa is a historic port city on Italy’s northwest coast and serves as the capital of the Liguria region, positioned between the Ligurian Alps and the Mediterranean Sea. As Italy’s sixth-largest city with a population of around 565,000, Genoa was once one of Europe’s most powerful maritime republics, dominating Mediterranean trade from the 11th to 18th centuries and producing legendary explorer Christopher Columbus. Today, visitors can explore one of Europe’s largest historic centers, featuring a labyrinth of medieval alleyways called caruggi, magnificent Renaissance palaces along Via Garibaldi (a UNESCO World Heritage site), and attractions like the massive Aquarium of Genoa and the revitalized Old Port designed by architect Renzo Piano.
Cinque Terre

Val d’Orcia via Pienza
