Our 2023 family trip to Siargao in the Philippines was an unforgettable adventure filled with sun, sea, and excitement. The island’s laid-back vibe, lush palm-fringed shores, and crystal-clear waters set the perfect scene for relaxation and exploration, but it was the surfing that truly stole the show for the girls. They spent hours riding the gentle waves, laughing and building confidence on their boards, while we soaked up the vibrant island culture and stunning scenery. Siargao’s warm community, scenic spots, and thrilling surf made it a highlight of our family travels, leaving us all with cherished memories and a longing to return.

Surfing at Cloud 9
Surfing at Cloud 9 is an exhilarating experience, known for its powerful and consistent waves. This surf spot has become synonymous with Siargao, drawing surfers from around the world to test their skills on its iconic waves. The name “Cloud 9” evokes a sense of ultimate bliss and freedom, perfectly capturing the sensation of riding the waves in this idyllic location. With its dramatic swells and pristine surroundings, Cloud 9 offers both seasoned surfers and beginners a unique opportunity to connect with nature and feel the adrenaline rush that comes with conquering the waves.
The history of Cloud 9 is as fascinating as the waves it produces. It was discovered in the 1980s by American photographer John Callahan, who was captivated by the untouched beauty and perfect surf conditions of Siargao. Over time, Cloud 9 gained international recognition, transforming Siargao from a hidden gem into a must-visit destination for surf enthusiasts. Island Hopping Tour
Island hopping in Siargao is an experience that should not be missed, particularly the enchanting trio of Guyam, Daku, and Naked Islands. These picturesque spots each offer their own unique charm and beauty, making for an unforgettable adventure. Guyam Island, a small tropical paradise, boasts powdery white sand and swaying palm trees. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely picnic or a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters that surround it. The island’s tranquil atmosphere provides a lovely contrast to the bustling life on Siargao’s main island.
Daku Island, the largest of the three, is equally captivating with its expansive sandy shores and inviting turquoise waters. The name “Daku” means “big” in the local dialect, and the island lives up to its name with plenty of space to explore and relax. Visitors can enjoy a traditional Filipino meal in one of the nipa huts dotting the beach, or simply bask in the sun while listening to the gentle waves. Snorkeling is a popular activity here, with vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life just waiting to be discovered beneath the surface.
Finally, Naked Island offers a unique and minimalist beauty, devoid of any vegetation but surrounded by stunning azure waters. This small sandbar is the epitome of simplicity, allowing visitors to truly appreciate the untouched beauty of nature. The clear, shallow waters make it an excellent spot for swimming and wading, providing a sense of peace and serenity. Together, Guyam, Daku, and Naked Islands create a captivating island-hopping experience that showcases the natural splendor of Siargao, leaving visitors with memories to cherish for a lifetime.
